The One Health definition of the One Health High-Level Expert Panel and the first report of the Lancet One Health Commission emphasise once again that the challenges of our time, such as zoonoses, antimicrobial resistance, environmental degradation and climate change, require an integrative, interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary approach to solve. The One Health approach provides the basis for researching why, when, how and where diseases arise and spread. To answer these questions in the context of sustainable, holistic and contemporary health research, it is essential to foster interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary cooperation between relevant disciplines, such as human medicine, veterinary medicine, biology, environmental sciences and climate research.
The One Health approach is already the foundation for cooperation in numerous initiatives around the world, at various levels ranging from politics to NGOs and networks. These initiatives aim to establish synergies to increase the efficiency and sustainability of One Health research and the targeted implementation of its results. The German One Health Platform intends to follow this path, focusing more on international networking in the coming years.
The One Health Platform is currently formulating an internationalisation strategy to guide its implementation methods and goals.
The publication will take place soon.
